It is a fact that society seems to be more interested in other people's lives rather than looking into their own imperfections. Most conservative parents are of the view on what the society would think if we take such an action or decision. Joanna was facing such a situation in her life.
Her parents were very conservative and God fearing people. They used to impose their ideas on Joanna so that the whole family, including Joanna, had a good image to maintain in the society. Joanna found it interesting to teach kids from her childhood and her family was supportive of her. She used to visit the orphanage near the church to teach the kids. One of the shocking discoveries she had made was on how illiterate most of them were. They were unable to even speak in an entire sentence, forget reading and writing. Gradually, Joanna realized that there were many illiterate people around the world and needed basic education for survival.
Joanna was determined that she would become an English teacher so that she could teach the poor and needy children. Joanna decided to get a teacher's degree to build her career. However, some of the so-called “relatives and cousins” made fun of her by asking the point in opting for English as everyone communicates in the language and that there are not many career prospects for the same. She became a laughing stock and this reached her parents.
