Casey was ecstatic the moment she got a job as a subway driver. She knew that it never meant that she could relax and earn well. She had to manage her other part time job as well so that her mother could be treated and they could return back to their normal life.
Casey's mother owns a bakery and she built it from nothing. Her mother single-handedly took care of her when her father left her mother for a different woman. Casey's mother, Jenna, hailed from a rich family. However, she fell in love with a struggling bellboy who worked at a restaurant. Jenna's family found out and soon disowned her for being a disgrace to the family as they held up family values and traditions above everything.
Jenna was up for a surprise and she found out the actual struggle as she eloped and married the guy. Jenna decided to sell all her valuables and then buy a run down bakery that was about to shut down. Even though her husband got angry at her for buying the bakery rather than giving the money to him, he was glad that Jenna could earn money so that he could happily spend it on entertaining himself and other girls he flirted with.
The guy decided to ditch Jenna as soon as he found out that she was pregnant. He found a rich divorcee and decided to leave Jenna for the rich woman as it meant more money for him. Jenna was shocked and heartbroken. She knew that her family wouldn't even bother to listen to her or agree to help her. Hence, she decided to continue baking cakes, cookies and brownies to earn a living.
Amidst her struggles, she took care of Casey, got her educated and even encouraged her to attend University. She also had a garden at their run down house behind the bakery where they lived. Casey used to make unique bouquets for weddings or parties according to the order she received. Casey had set up a website for the bakery where people could order cookies, cake or brownies and the order would be delivered personally by Casey. However, the website specifically mentioned that online delivery was only available during certain hours so that it doesn't clash with Casey's subway job.
