Due to the rise in modern technology, scamsters have found various ways to exploit people through online fraud. There is no easy way to avoid scams other than by being careful and helping the elderly who lack awareness in changing trends in technology.

Being cautious is the best way to move forward by avoiding scams. Beth was lucky enough that her grandson, Ken, arrived for her rescue. Beth lacked awareness about using computers. She just had the basic knowledge to attend video calls and send emails to her friends. She never used to browse or shop online as her son or grandson helped her out in all of it.
Once Beth was alone at the house as her son and his family had gone fishing for the day. She received a call claiming to be the guy from "Microsoft" and enquired for details such as how long she has been using the computer. She told him that they were using a "Mac" but the guy told her that he could provide services on Mac as well. She admitted that she just used the computer for video calls and emails and that her son and grandson were the main users. The scammer understood that she lacked awareness about technology and acted as if he would guide her out.
Beth told that she didn't need any guidance and asked him to call later so that the guy could speak directly to her son or grandson. The scammer agreed thinking that he could scam her son or grandson but requested her to install a software (obviously screen sharing software). She declined again by saying that she was unaware of browsing on the internet.
However, once her grandson came back, she told him about the call. He immediately understood that it was a scam but agreed to find out further regarding the "Microsoft" guy's intentions! Ken had installed the software in the computer and had set the drives and folders "password protected", so that the scammer couldn't even open and view anything. As expected, the scammer called and Beth picked it up. She immediately handed over the phone to Ken. The scammer asked Ken to provide the code displayed on the software. As expected, the scammer got into his system and tried to access the personal files. However, to his shock, he found out that everything was password protected. When asked, Ken lied that it was his dad who used to use the computer.
The scammer decided to scam for money and asked Ken to login to his granny's bank account. He kept speaking to the scammer and tracked his location with the help of another PC. He even gained access to his computer, found one of his photos and opened it in the other computer.
The scammer was shocked to find his photo on the supposedly victim's computer. He was shocked and immediately cut the call. Ken deleted all the files in the scammer's computer and thought that this would teach the scammer to not play around with people's emotions and money.

Scamming is spreading like a wildfire and these so called tech helpers are implementing modern ways to scam money out of people. We shouldn't fall prey to all of that and should be very careful while using the internet.
Have a great day and stay strong :)
