Women as home makers... Can't men be home makers or is it a gender stereotype role?

Kate and Allen got married amidst the waves of Hawaii beach in the presence of many guests who were happy for the newly wed couple.

As they were whisked off to the luxury hotel on a limousine, Allen's parents were discussing how happy they would be if Kate quits her job to become a homemaker and take care of all the needs of Allen and their future kids. They came from a conservative background where it is believed that a woman's job is to cook, clean, wash and take care of all household duties along with children and husband.

Kate and Allen returned back from their honeymoon and were surprised to find parents of both parties welcoming the couple happily to their newly rented apartment. Even though the parents seemed to be happy, it was evident that they were not that happy. Allen's parents asked him when Kate would be quitting her job to take care of Allen. He responded by saying that she will continue to work and he is fine with her working. This made his parents angry. They asked how he can allow his wife to work when no women in their family have worked so far.

Kate's parents were not too eager to hear this. They wanted their daughter to have a choice on whether to be independent and continue working or to be a homemaker.

After tensions that persisted between the families, both Kate and Allen discussed a lot of things and came up with a decision on the next day. Allen decided to come clean to his parents by saying that he was currently jobless and his company went bankrupt three months back. His parents were speechless and shocked to the core. They asked him why he spent so much money from his savings on marriage and honeymoon when Kate might be earning minimum wages (as per their thoughts)

Allen was taken aback by this statement and told his parents that both him and Kate were working in the same industry. Kate earned a huge paycheck that is enough for both of them to live luxuriously. Besides, they also revealed that they had plans to begin a family business soon. Allen's parents were shocked and asked how a woman can earn so much money. Allen explained how well-educated Kate was, how she worked hard to reach the position she is now and how her parents supported her throughout her life.

Kate's parents were so happy that their son-in-law knew what he was talking about and how he spoke in support of his wife to his own parents. Allen's family found it tough to digest but accepted and respected the couple's decision.

Allen needed a short break from work life. Kate understood the same and they decided together that Kate would be working in the office while Allen would remain a homemaker for sometime. Once they have kids, Kate can become a homemaker and Allen would handle the business which they were about to begin soon.

No matter which gender you belong to, being a homemaker is something to be proud of. It is the only job you do without expecting anyone to pay you anything. Taking care of the house, family and its members is no easy task. Some people juggle their task of being a homemaker and an employee.

Have a great day and stay strong :)
