What does greediness mean? How being Greedy could lead one's life to disaster?

 Alma is a housewife who is married to Alan. Alan worked for an IT firm and used to earn fairly good salary so that he and his wife could live comfortably. However, Alma was greedy and demanded that Alan hand over all his credit/debit cards and ask her money even for his personal expenses. Life was find when they were married but as time passed by, Alma came up with the demand to keep their expenditure under control (which was the reason she gave to confiscate Alan's cards)

Finally, Alan was fed up of all this and decided to confront his wife. He asked, "Why do you keep all the credit/debit cards with you? I earn quite well a salary so that we could live comfortably. Also, there is no need on controlling the expenditure as I have savings account where money gets deposited from the rented property I own" Alma got excited and spoke, "Actually, I wanted to ask you to hand over the account details of that savings account so that I can keep a tab of how much money is there. You know.. you could start looking for a job that would pay you much more money. I have heard that people with experience as equal to you earn more than double you make in a month! Why don't you give it a try?"

"Seriously! You want the only savings account I keep a check on.. for what? so that you could find out the amount that comes in every month? Also, Who told you that others who have equal experience as me make a lot more money? Is it just an assumption you have? Wishing for too much money is called greed... I never knew that you were so greedy for money when I got married to you. You are trying to get on my nerves now...!" Alan blurted out. Alma angrily told, "I am NOT greedy... How dare you accuse me of that? No, It's not an assumption. I looked up on the internet and found that many people make a lot more money than you with the same level of experience..." 

"Ah, so you trust whatever you see on the internet. Then why don't you leave me and get married to one of them?" Alan was furious and walked outside the house to get some fresh air. 

The next day, Alan came home to a locked house. As he had the spare keys with him, he used it and opened the house. He found that all his wife's belongings were missing. He also found divorce papers on the coffee table where Alma had filled in and had already signed. Alma contacted him that night and demanded that he file the divorce and hand over all the money from his savings account.

Alan told, "How's that possible? You have been handling my salary account since few years now. You will have to return all my salary back. The money from my savings account belongs to just me as it is the property I received as inheritance from my parents." 

Alma was shocked but tried to defend herself, "Even if it is your inheritance, I have right to get money. As I was a good wife to you, You will have to give me ALL the money you have. Never dream about getting your salary money back. In fact, you will have to keep paying me alimony even after we divorce!" 

Alan retorted, "You had an affair with the boss of my company. You lured him into your trap and demanded money from him. Besides, you had transferred money from my salary account to your personal accounts. You were reluctant to work hard and earn money. You wanted to be a freeloader and cheat on me with someone who was loaded with money for life. And now you tell me that you will sue me? Ha! The tables have turned! I will sue you and the boss for having an affair behind my back!"

Alma was shocked! "B...but Alan... How...How do you know all this? I made sure that all of this was hidden from you.. I.. I wanted to extort all the money from you...How did my plan backfire? Oh.. shoot!"

Alan said, "It was easy. I hired a private investigator and found out all of this in two days. He did a good job and provided evidence of you cheating on me. You can stop all of this and get ready to pay me as I would be suing you. Remember Greed would lead your life to disaster. Contact my lawyer for further communication. BYE!". Alan blocked Alma's number and moved on with his life.

Greediness for anything, would lead to disaster. Greed means strong desire for money, love, respect or any possessions that some might need. They won't be satisfied with a certain amount and would always look for more.
