Providing elderly care - How blessful such a deed could be ...

Sean was an orphan who grew up with many unfortunate kids who never experienced love from parents and family. Since childhood, he always wanted to care for people and serve them. He became a nurse and provided elderly care in an organisation since an year. One of the elderly couple came in to the facility one morning. They seemed quiet and depressed unlike others. Sean decided to find out the issue. He went into their room and knocked softly. "Come in", came a sad and faint voice from the woman. "Both of you seem to be sad over something. May I know the problem so that I could try to help you?" enquired Sean worriedly. John, the elderly man spoke out, "There is no need for that. We don't share any of our personal issues with strangers!" Ruth, the elderly woman, who is John's wife felt bad for Sean. She said, "I am sorry dear. My husband tends to speak out things that comes into his mind bluntly. Please don't mind." Sean understood that they needed some time and took his leave.

Caring for the elderly was not an easy task as Sean had imagined. However, he was ready to adopt to the situations and provide elder care even though some people were grumpy and rude towards him. Some people who were enrolled for elderly care services were very kind, thankful and loving towards him. Ruth was one such person while John belonged to the former category of people. As time went by, Ruth understood that Sean was an orphan as he spoke about his childhood, ambitions and so on. "Take this food away from me! It's horrible and tasteless!" exclaimed John and pushed away the plate with food on the floor. Sean picked up the shattered plate and cleared the spilled food and water. Ruth told, "John, this is too much now. Don't punish others for what your son did to us!"

"Our son Jordan was a bright student and good kid while growing up. John used to take him fishing and we used to go on interstate trips on our RV during his vacation. We were such a perfect family. Everything changed as soon as he started working for a big corporate company. As the company had provided good position and accomodation, our Jordy decided to stay away from us. He fell in love and decided to marry. We met his fiancee and everything was good. Once they got married, Jordy stopped visiting us and started living with his wife in a condo they had purchased. They had a daughter and a son. Jordy used to call us once in few months. We were not happy with the situation but thought that our interference would cause problems to arise in his family. One day, Jordy and his wife came down to our house with his kids. We were over the moon. We were very happy for a week as we got to spend time with all of them. One night Jordy came to our room and told us that he is in a small financial turmoil and needed help. We felt bad and handed over the will of our house to him naming him as the owner of the house. This was a huge mistake. In two days, Jordy told us that he already sold the house and his financial issues were solved. He wanted us to move out of the house but both of us were shocked as he never discussed anything with us. His wife threatened to kick us out of the house if we don't leave on our own. Jordy asked us to pack our bags and get out of the house. John was furious and disappointed. We never thought that our own Jordy would do such a horrible thing to us!" weeped Ruth as she found it difficult to speak further.

"I don't need any son to take care of me. I have my wife with me. That ungrateful boy Jordan is dead to me!" spoke John with anger seething through him. Eventhough John was angry, Sean found a hint of pain and heartbreak in John's voice. Sean continued to care for John and Ruth and other elderly at the elder care facility.

Caring for the elderly is a good deed. May it be our own parents or grandparents or even elderly strangers, caring for them and helping them in their day-to-day activities, motivating them to stay happy and positive in life can do you good. We should think of our childhood on how our parents took care of us, taught us to speak, walk, celebrated on each of our achievements in life and stood with us during our happy and sad times. Similarly, we should also care for the elderly when they require help of others to carry out their daily routine. Never think of ignoring the elder parents or force them to move out into elderly care. Life becomes meaningful when we care for the elderly.

Have a great day and stay strong! :)
