Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer. How this statement could be true?

Ken is the son of a company president and an arrogant brat. He was working as a manager in his father's company who was the president. Ken had assumed that he is in line to be the next company president. Instead of showing support and leading the projects well, Ken had arrogance in his tone and had heavy overconfidence which is a slow and insidious killer, in all his actions.

"Why are you leaving now? It's your responsibility to complete the entire project. Just a three hour work could complete the project. So, just work overtime and finish it  off" Ken spoke out ordering on his co-worker. "But.. s.. sir, my child is alone at home and there is no one to take care of her. It's unsafe for a child to be alone at night. so..." spoke the co-worker politely. Ken interrupted her rudely and said, " I don't want to hear any excuses. Even if it takes you until morning to finish the project, I want you to work and finish the project. Also, you cannot take off tomorrow. It's an order from the future president. If you disobey, you would be fired immediately" As Ken ignorantly walked away, the co-worker was in tears.

"What is this Ken? Who do you think you are to order around the employees with that level of arrogance and overconfidence?" asked his father in an authoritative tone. "Oh Stop it old man! Its been time you handed over the company to me. Come on, sign it over so that I can enjoy the authority and power you had for all these years. By the way, you should also sign over all the properties we own and the cars you have to me! I will take good care of everything and will also allow you to stay in one of the mansions we own in the countryside! See, am I not a good and obedient son you have?" spoke Ken waiting anxiously for his father to sign over everything. "How disrespectful and arrogant are you? Get out of my house. You are no longer my son and won't be my company's president. I worked hard to build this company to what it is now. I am disowning you this instant. You won't get a cent from me at all" Ken's father spoke out angrily. "B..But Dad, what did I do?" Ken asked in a confused tone?"

"Are you a fool? You threatened the employees in the office, forced them to over-work without even thinking of their personal issues. You even made them do your work. You spoke to them authoritatively with overconfidence. Just who do you think you are?"

"I am your son, Dad. I thought speaking to the employees with authority would double the productivity and this could be good for the company. More work would be completed in less time. Isn't it good?" spoke Ken. "So, you wanted the employees to over work and tire themselves out to the point that they quit their job under lot of stress and pressure. Do you know that such stress might even affect their physical and mental health? Who cares, right? It's a shame that you have such an attitude. I;s the mistake I made in your upbringing. I should have taught you the value of money and hard work. Overconfidence and arrogance would never take you anywhere good. remember, overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer. I have nothing more to tell you. Get out and never see my face again. You are on your own!" said Ken's dad and slammed the door on his face.

Overconfidence could be bad. One might not realize it but it would bite them back one way or the other. Always remember to be polite, own to earth and understanding.

Have a great day and stay strong! :)
