How to overcome arrogance?

Jake works for a huge corporate company and was the head of the finance department. He had a good attitude when he was new to the company. However, his attitude and demeanor started changing as he started gaining experience and got several promotions within the company. The worst quality he had was arrogance towards others which he misunderstood as confidence. It took him quite sometime and a bad experience to identify that confidence and arrogance are two different concepts and he was, in fact, arrogant towards others.

Danny was a new hire and was getting used to the company policies and workplace ethics. He was a hard worker and had already started assisting the employees with a project. Jake was rude and arrogant towards almost everyone. He considered almost everyone as inferiors. 

Jake waved his hands and blurted out, "Do you even know what work you are doing? Are you even well-qualified to do that work? Get up and grab a cup of coffee for me... okay?" Danny was confused at what Jake was telling him as he was working at his desk. "Are you deaf or don't you understand even a simple instruction? Now, GO you imbecile!" Jake shouted at Danny. Danny immediately ran towards the coffee vending machine, grabbed a cup of warm coffee and returned back. "Here's your coffee, sir" Danny spoke to Jake politely. 

The co-workers knew and warned Danny that Jake has targeted him and he should be more careful. The next week Jake immediately walked towards Danny and threw hot coffee all over him. Jake started laughing out loud like a maniac. He spoke, "Hey guys, look, we have a clumsy little mouse who is soaked all in coffee. This is what you deserve, you stupid dimwit." Jake walked away as Danny was shocked sitting on his desk with his skin still burning from hot coffee. However, the CEO was walking past the area when he noticed the commotion and saw everything that had happened over a span of few minutes. Danny was provided with immediate medical attention.

Every worker was supportive of Danny. Some workers came forward and complained to HR about how they were ill-treated by Jake over the years. The HR forwarded the complaints to the CEO so that he could take further action.

A shocked look appeared on Jason's face as he checked the financial statements of the company. He was sure that Jake was involved in all of this. The CEO asked to personally meet Jake to fire him. Jake was shocked to the core. "But. why sir? What wrong did I do?" Jake acted innocent and asked Jason was furious and showed the financial irregularities and asked Jake to explain... Jake was unable to utter a word. Jason reported Jake to the cops on how abusive he was towards the employees and also about the financial irregularities within the company. A thorough investigation was carried out by the cops.

Jake was fired on the spot and this became a headline for media as the company was a popular one. Jake was found guilty of cash embezzlement  and was ordered by the court to repay for all the damages. As he was unable to repay, he lost his condo and other assets he had. His wife divorced him and he lost the child's custody as well. In a span of few days, he was seen on the streets begging for food and money to survive everyday.

What is the difference between confidence and arrogance you might ask? Confidence is speaking out with a surety about one's abilities, opinion etc. while arrogance is  being rude to people and a feeling that one is superior over others in all aspects.

Arrogance could make one feel strong and can be seen initially as a coping mechanism for people with low self- esteem. However, long-term arrogance might cause more harm which might result in loneliness, depression, lack of direction and lack of success.
